A day trip from Santo Domingo to the mountains

Swap the city and the crowded beaches for mountains, a river and a pool, about an hour north of Santo Domingo.

Why the mountains

Most day trips from Santo Domingo head east to the beach. Head north instead and in about an hour you are in Monseñor Nouel province, where Dominican families spend Sundays by rivers and pools in the hills. At Tony Ranch you get the pool, a jacuzzi, lunch and the Maimón river about 50 m away.

Getting there

Take the Autopista Duarte (DR-1) north, exit at Piedra Blanca and follow the road toward Juan Adrián for about 5 minutes to La Privada. A car or a private driver is the easiest option.
